Student Accounting has been notified that counterfeit money has been circulating in the area and on campus.
There are a few ways you can determine if the cash you are carrying is counterfeit:
- Bill denominations of $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 have a watermark and a security strip that is visible when held up to light. The bill is real if you see both.
- If you have access to a counterfeit currency pen you can test bills. The mark will appear yellow if the bill is real. If the mark is brown/black, the currency is not real. This method will work on all currencies.
- The bills are fake if the front states it is a “replica and for motion picture use only” and/or the back reads “this is a replica.”
If you find you have counterfeit currency you can take it to any local bank and/or Student Accounting. Student Accounting will not replace the currency or take criminal action. If you have further questions or concerns, contact Student Accounting at 517-629-0507 or email accounting@albion.edu.
