Faculty Recital

The Albion College Department of Music will present a Faculty Recital on Sunday, October 20 at 4:00 pm. The program will include works for voice, piano, saxophone, violin, viola, and trombone.

 

Soprano Jenny Ribeiro will sing the fiery aria “Ich kann nicht sitzen” from Strauss’s opera Elektra. She will also be joined by saxophonist Nathan Salazar for a performance of Lori Laitman’s moving song cycle I Never Saw Another Butterfly, set to texts by children of the Holocaust. Trombonist John Robinson will present Rachamaninoff’s haunting Elégie and cellist Jinhyun Kim will perform Florence Price’s reflective Adoration, both in collaboration with pianist Nicholas Laban. Rounding out the program is a collection of duets for violin and cello by Reinhold Glière, presented by Jinhyun Kim and violinist Ji Hyun Kim.

 

This concert will take place in Goodrich Chapel – it is free and open to the public. Join us for an afternoon of beautiful music!

Bellemont Manor Estate Sale

We are so excited to announce that Albion College’s Center for Sustainability and the Environment (CSE), AmeriCorps and Albion’s Yesterday’s News will be hosting an estate sale at Bellemont Manor Oct. 24-26th. 

Bellemont Manor is an important piece of Albion College’s and Albion’s history and we are proud to be a part of the process of managing the inventory while promoting sustainable consumption. 

A portion of the proceeds from this sale will go towards the CSE Green Fund, where students can get funding for sustainability projects on campus and the community. 

The sale will be taking place Thurs. Oct. 24th from 4-7pm, Oct. 25th from 10am-5pm and Oct. 26th from 10am-3pm.

October 21 is the deadline to register to vote online/by mail in Michigan (but you can also register on election day in-person). In Michigan, November 1 is the deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail. Are you from out of state? Check out TurboVote to learn more about your state’s voting laws and key deadlines.

Climate Education For All: Empowering a Climate-Ready Workforce, a presentation and Q&A by Dr. Elise DeCamp

Join the Center for Sustainability and the Environment (CSE) and the Earth and Environment (E&E) and Anthropology/Sociology Departments in learning about the work that Higher Education for Climate Action in Michigan (HECAM) is doing to connect and empower higher ed faculty and students. Visiting assistant professor of anthropology Dr. Elise DeCamp will be sharing what HECAM is working to achieve and how students and faculty can get involved in the higher education climate action movement. The presentation and Q&A will be on Thursday, Oct. 17th from 7-8pm in Norris 102. 

Dr. DeCamp provides leadership and organizational support to three Michigan statewide climate-focused educational organizations: Higher Education for Climate Action in Michigan (HECAM), the Climate Education Action Team, and the Michigan Alliance for Environmental and Outdoor Education.

We hope you will join us in learning about how Albion can get involved in the climate action movement in Michigan.
