Make a Plan to Vote Tuesday, Nov. 5!

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5. Do you have a plan to vote? You can register in Michigan even on election day at your local City Clerk’s office (if you are registering in Albion, go to City Hall – 112 W Cass St, Albion). Have questions or need to learn more about voting options in your home state? Check out TurboVote for more information.

SVB EXEC APPLICATION

As the end of the semester approaches, so does the SVB executive board election process. Every position will be available for applicants this year, each member interested in joining SVB exec must show interest in continuing community service on campus and learning more about how to help the Albion community.

The positions include president, community liaison, campus outreach, treasurer, secretary, public relations, Americorps member, and member at large.

If you are interested in one or more of these positions please fill out this application form before Monday, November 11th. Interested applicants are welcome to sit in on an SVB exec meeting to see how things are run before deciding to apply, if you would like to do this please email ifp10@albion.edu.

Election Night Watch Party

Albion Dems, Albion Republicans, and The Ford Institute will be hosting an joint Election Night Watch Party on Tuesday the 5th from 7:00-11:00 in the KC Stack. We encourage everyone to come and to bring a companion along. There will be snacks and beverages provided! We appreciate your time and we look forward to having you all there!

Piano Festival Starts Friday night!

The Albion College Piano Festival will take place from Nov 1st-3rd this year featuring talented pre-college pianists who will compete for prizes in a piano competition and play in private lessons with our piano faculty and master classes with our two guest artists, Dr. Hamilton Tescarollo and Dr. Immanuela Gruenberg.  This is the 16th year of the festival which opens with a guest artist recital Friday Nov. 1st at 7:30 p.m. in Goodrich Chapel.  Students will perform in Goodrich Saturday and Sunday.  Founded by Drs. Lia Jensen-Abbott and David Abbott, this festival is dedicated to the goal of supporting and inspiring young late elementary pianists through advanced performance levels.

Campus Talk on Linguistic Justice Nov. 8!

Calling all students, faculty, and staff who are interested in learning more about how to practice linguistic justice at Albion College and beyond! Dr. April Baker-Bell of the University of Michigan will be joining us on November 8 to give a campus-wide talk on linguistic diversity and justice. 

Campus-Wide Talk: Working Towards Linguistic Justice at Albion College

Drawing on the research and teaching in her book, Linguistic Justice: Black Language, Literacy, Identity, and Pedagogy, Dr. April Baker-Bell will lead attendees towards a larger conversation about how to celebrate the diverse languages, knowledges, and cultures of our campus community through practicing linguistic justice in our classrooms and beyond.

Spring Opera Workshop–“A Sondheim Celebration”

Registration is coming up and OPERA WORKSHOP is happening again in Spring 2025! This year will be a show of comic and dramatic scenes entitled:
A SONDHEIM CELEBRATION!!!!!
Friday, March 21st at 7:30PM
Goodrich Chapel, Albion College
That’s right. All Sondheim, all the time. We will be crafting a show around you, the cast, but in order for us to make this happen, we need you to register for Opera Workshop when you register for classes!! Rehearsal/class time is currently TBD, and we will be working around the cast’s schedules, but expect rehearsals M/W/F mid-day, some Wednesday night rehearsals as well as block off evenings the week of the show for tech week. (Monday, March 17th – Friday, March 21st)
Show your interest by registering for the class, and then signing up for auditions, which will be Friday, December 6 from 3-5PM. More information will be sent in November. INVITE YOUR FRIENDS!!!!!
