The workshop will be delivered by Dr. Megan Hill and Dr. Katey Price, and will explore the importance of critically analyzing media messages and understanding their impact on society and elections. Gain valuable tools for navigating today’s complex media landscape and become a more informed consumer of information.

SOC 230: Men & Masculinities (***NO PREREQUISITE – OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS! APPLICATION REQUIRED.)
The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program creates a dynamic partnership between institutions of higher
learning and correctional systems in order to deepen the conversation about and transform our
approaches to understanding crime, justice, freedom, inequality, and other issues of social concern.
Inside-Out brings college students together with incarcerated people to study as peers. The Program is a semester-long academic course, meets
once a week, through which 15 “outside” (undergrad) students and the same number of “inside”
(incarcerated) students attend class together inside prison.

Mackinac State Historic Parks director emeritus Phil Porter will discuss how his organization uses a wide variety of resources including library and archival materials, research reports, oral histories, and archaeological discoveries to create informative and entertaining public programs. Mr. Porter will weave information about his 50-year career at Mackinac State Historic Parks and in the history museum field into his illustrated lecture. This event is free and open to the public! This evening (Thursday, October 17th) at 7:00 p.m., Prior Chiezan Tomczyk of the SokukoJi Buddhist Temple Monastery in Battle Creek will lead a guided meditation and answer questions about Buddhism, including basics, what it is like to be a Buddhist monk in his order, and how to apply meditation ‘off the cushion’.
The session will be held in Kellogg 405. Whether you are new to meditation, a practicing Buddhist, or just curious about Buddhism, all are welcome. Snacks will be provided.
