FURSCA summer proposal peer review with PIZZA!

Research proposals can be challenging to write. They have many parts – project, goals, outcomes, timeline, abstract, etc., and you’re expected to be clear and concise in each one! See how others are approaching this challenge and get feedback on your draft proposal at the FURSCA Summer Proposal Peer Review on Wednesday, January 24th at 5:00pm in the Library Livingroom.  The Directors of FURSCA and Writing Consulting will facilitate peer review and address your questions about effective research proposals. Linda Johnson Rice To Headline MLK Convocation, Mon., Jan. 22

Join us next Monday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Bohm Theatre for Albion College’s 2024 Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation and Community Celebration, featuring a special Q&A with Linda Johnson Rice, Chairman and CEO, Johnson Publishing Company and former Chairman Emeritus of Ebony Media Operations, moderated by Jiquanda Johnson, founder and editor of Flint Beat. Johnson Rice and Johnson will explore the theme, “Shifting the Cultural Climate Through the Study and Practice of Kingian Nonviolence.”

More than just a publication, EBONY Magazine captured the post-war optimism and aspirational dreams of multiple generations of African Americans. Centering narratives on a people with stories told by the people. So much so that from 1957 to 1958, Martin Luther King Jr. penned a monthly advice column called “Advice for Living,” where readers of the magazine could ask King his thoughts. Timely for the era, King responded to a myriad of questions from readers of the magazine.

A veteran journalist, Jiquanda Johnson launched Flint Beat in 2017 to fill news gaps in an underserved community after Flint, Michigan residents said they needed more from their news coverage. Since its debut, Flint Beat has taken the lead as a news platform for the Flint community to be heard.

Interfaith Ambassadors Team Taking Applications for Spring 2024 Cohort

If you are passionate about promoting belonging and justice and care about making sure people of all faiths feel safe and respected, you may be interested in joining the Interfaith Ambassadors team. You can develop your leadership, conflict resolution and creative problem-solving skills while learning about religions, spiritualities and cultural practices.

The Interfaith Ambassadors work directly with the assistant director for spiritual wellness to show students of all faiths (and lack thereof) that they belong through education, advocacy and targeted problem-solving work. This is experiential learning and a great resume-builder. The group is now taking applications for the Spring 2024 cohort.

Apply by the end of the day Friday, Jan. 19, if interested. Questions can be directed to Assistant Director for Spiritual Wellness Laura Todd at ltodd@albion.edu.
